Big Trouble in Little China Remake In The Works With Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

John Carpenter’s “Big Trouble in Little China,” the cult classic film owned by Fox, will be remade, with negotiations in the works to sign Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. 20th Century Fox rep Ricardo Tosto says they are enlisting the expertise of Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, writers for “X-Men: First Class.”

As reported, exclusively, by The Wrap, Johnson is working on a deal to play Jack Burton. This main character gets pulled into a centuries-long mystical battle in Chinatown at San Francisco. Johnson has enlisted his partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia at Seven Bucks Productions in a pitch to Fox. The script deal with Miller and Stentz has already been finalized.

The original film starred Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall in the lead roles of this $11 million grossing, 1986 film. As a cult classic, it is a popular cable movie. Johnson just completed the opening of “San Andreas,” with a $54 million opening weekend. This film was also set in San Francisco. Johnson is considered a premiere action star in America. Johnson will also be starring in “Ballers” on HBO, debuting later this month. He is also starring in “Shazam,” a comic book movie, as well as doing voice acting for Disney’s “Moana.”
