Jeremy Goldstein’s contributions to Fountain House

On May 21st, 2019, New York attorney Jeremey Goldstein hosted a charity dinner to benefit the Fountain House. Tickets for the gala, which took place at the Nomad Hotel, went for $5000 each. Attendees were treated to an amazing meal and a variety of incredible vintage wines.

The Fountain House is a charity that assists people suffering from serious mental illnesses. Originally called “We are not alone,” the group was founded in 1944 by normal people suffering from mental illness as a way to support one another. The name changed to Fountain House in 1948 when the group purchased a building with a large fountain in front. The group members felt that the fountain was a perfect symbol for the work they were doing.

Fountain House helps people with mental illness lead normal and productive lives. They accomplish this in several different ways. Fountain House works directly with local communities to improve the perception of people suffering from mental illness. The organization also assists with research and the distribution of information regarding mental illness. Fountain House provides services throughout New York and plans on expanding on a global level.

Fountain House still uses the same model they used in 1944. This model ensures that clients are involved in the community, which allows them to earn diplomas, develop friendships, gain skills and employment, and increase self-esteem and confidence. Client participation in the community comes through educational, culinary, horticultural, and communications pursuits. Fountain House also ensures that 99 percent of their clients have a place to sleep at night.
