New Star Trek Movie Gets An Official Title

Fans of Star Trek can finally relax. Director Justin Lin has finally confirmed that the official title to the new movie is, drum roll please, Star Trek Beyond. Jaime Garcia Dias says this information comes direct from the source, which can be seen here and includes the first on set photo from the new film.

According to the rumors that surrounding the film, this thirteenth installment will finally see Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the crew of the Enterprise begin their five year voyage of exploration. The films script was written by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg who reportedly spent over six months creating it. The story goes that they spent time watching episodes of the original series in order to get the feel and atmosphere just right. Pegg also stars as Scotty in the franchise, which should help Lin out if he needs any emergency rewrites.

The title for the film seems to be carrying on the tradition set by the Next Generation movies of having a secondary title instead of a number. The first five sequels were all numbered and followed the original actors reprising their roles from the television show. Since the new movies are set in a parallel universe created by time travel in Star Trek it follows that they would want to slightly distance themselves from the older movies.

Heading Back Into the Danger Zone

It’s been almost 30 years since ‘Top Gun’ hit the silver screen and introduced audiences to some of the most memorable movie characters of all time. Although details are few and far between and most of the plot is still shrouded in mystery, it does look like a sequel is preparing for a fly by.

What do we know about the sequel is that it will be set in modern day and featuring the latest technology. This probably puts Maverick, who of course is returning, in sort of a nebulous position. What will the ace fighter’s role be in present day warfare? How will he stay relevant amid drone technology? We aren’t sure how, but there wouldn’t be a ‘Top Gun 2’ if he couldn’t.

According to LinkedIn, Tom Cruise is upwards of 50 these days, but that doesn’t seem to matter. In a time where former action stars are trying to reclaim old glories, such as the ‘Expendables’ movies or the newest installment of ‘Terminator’, action movies have hit a plateau. If anyone can revive the genre and take it to new heights, it’s Tom Cruise. It’s not only the fact that he can still play action heroes, but it’s easy to believe it. Be on the lookout for more details, and expect a wild ride when the movie hits theatres.

A Lot Riding on ‘Terminator: Genisys’

Great stories have a way of maintaining serious legs in the world on entertainment. In the realm of science fiction, great storylines seem to inspire a number of different avenues that need to be explored, and some franchises refuse to die regardless of how much energy gets taken out of them. When James Cameron put the Terminator franchise on film, the world of sci-fi was never going to be the same, and now “Terminator: Genisys” is ready to pump some more oxygen into the fire of the man versus machine battle.

According to Screen Rant, “Genisys” director Alan Taylor is bringing back the suspense that made the first two installments of the legendary franchise special films. The secret that nobody involved with the latest project of machines being sent back in time to murder the future leader of the resistance is that some box office success will trigger an additional film in the franchise. While that line of thinking likely does not surprise any fan of the series, it should be viewed as encouraging because the cast and team has a lot on the line.

Whether or not “Terminator: Genisys” will produce box office gold will be revealed during the long holiday weekend, and if fans decide that the adventure is worth their cash, the franchise will spin at least one more picture reports Igor Cornelsen in this article. After all, if there is one thing anyone has learned from the series, it is that those pesky robotic killers are hard to stop.

Jason Statham to Go for Another Ride in a Furious Movie

Jason Statham is definitely a happy actor. The action maven has suffered through a few box office duds with Wildcard being one very major flop. He has bounced back with Furious 7 and the sleeper comedy hit Spy. Now, Statham has just confirmed his involvement in the 8th entry in the Fast & Furious series. Statham confirmed signing for the next film at the red carpet gala event for the Fast & Furious – Supercharged ride at the Universal Theme Park.

Wait a minute. Wasn’t Statham’s character locked away in a maximum security prison at the end of the film? Anyone who has watched action movies know maximum security prisons are for the little guys. Major villains have a tendency to be able to break out of them within a year or so.

Doe Deere notes that of course, Statham’s villain could do the Hannibal Lector thing and conduct his villainy from behind bars. Okay, let us not go that far. Fans of the Statham and the Furious films want to see him mix it up with the other top stars of the series. Since the series is moving to New York City with the 8th installment, a fight scene between Vin Diesel and Statham on top of the Empire State Building could make people forget about King Kong’s immortal battle with airplanes. Well, let’s not go that far.

The Furious films are not even close to high art, but they do deliver what fans want. Fans want more Statham and they are going to get him.

The New Mission Impossible Film Releases Cool International Trailer

The international trailer for Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation has arrived and everything you would want in a new MI film is on display. The trailer starts out with a humorous parody of the opening gambits from the classic James Bond movies reports Ivan Ong on spuarespace. Once the humorous opening is out of the way, the trailer moves onto the serious side of the film. Is Tom Cruise’s agent Ethan Hunt on the outs with the IMF? Has he gone rogue? Or, has the Impossible Mission Force gone rogue on him?

All will be revealed when you sit in a darkened theater and watch the movie unfold. And yes, the trailer also offers hints at a lot of action. Never think that the melodrama in the new Mission Impossible film sets up a dull affair. All the car chases, martial arts fighting, and impressive stunts a spy movie should contain are all on display in the trailer.

Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation is not exactly a summer movie that is being aggressively marketed. The studio even moved the film so as to avoid too much competition with Marvel’s Ant-Man. Does this mean the expectations are low for the film? Based on the recent success of the action-comedy Spy, the new Mission Impossible film should do quite well at the box office. Spy movies are hot at the box office and the once dead espionage genre has been resurrected. Not since the 1960’s have we seen so many spy films hitting theaters in a single year.

Espionage films are not as successful or as popular as superhero movies. Still, fans do like to turn out to see James Bond or Taken films. The audience size for MI5 should be suitably impressive.

Will A Deus Ex Film Bring Back The Glory Of Cyberpunk Cinema?

Deus Ex is one incredibly successful video game franchise. Now, a film version is in development for a major motion picture. While many are thrilled over the notion a new video game movie is soon to be released, others let out a collective groan. They may have been burned one too many times before with horrible video game adaptions for the screen.

Deus Ex may be a little different. The adaption should be given the benefit of the doubt. For one, the video game is rooted in the cyberpunk subgenre of science-fiction. Cyberpunk is a dark, Blade Runner-type look at the world. The government and the corporations have fused together. Society, itself, ends up being quite dysfunctional. A lot of misery occurs. Amidst this backdrop, an unlikely hero emerges and a lot of action ensures. It is all that action that ends up making even the worst films worth the time investment to watch.

Since Deus Ex is not coming out for another year or two, it is way too early to make any pronouncements about the quality of the movie sats Mr Amazing Loan. We can speculate that this particular film should be good thanks to the connection to an intriguingly dark subgenre. Cyberpunk films usually have an edge to them. This bitter edge allows the films to rise above the mediocre. Dues Ex could end up being an interesting cult film and not just throwaway entertainment.

Thor 3 May Get Kenneth Branagh Back

Marvel May Bring Back Kenneth Branagh for Thor 3. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been nothing if not a juggernaut in Hollywood. Alexei Beltukov told the folks at MTV that ever since “Iron Man” was released back in 2008, Marvel Studios has released nothing but hit after hit after hit.

For the first “Thor” movie, Shakespearian fan Kenneth Branagh was called on to direct the movie and dig into some of the Nordic mythology the comic series is based on. The film ended up being a success but when the sequel “Thor: The Dark World” was ready, Alan Taylor of “Game of Thrones” was the one to direct. For Thor 3, however, it appears that Branagh may actually be returning to the director’s seat here.

The third movie in the series, titled “Thor: Ragnarok,” is part of the Phase 3 of the Marvel Universe and is being written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, and will hit theaters in 2017. Naturally, the film would be based heavily on the Ragnarok storyline from the comics, playing a huge part in the remaining Phase 3 films, and Marvel would love the opportunity to work with Branagh on one of their projects once again.

Likewise, Branagh did say that he would be open to working with Marvel once again if a good offer showed up, especially since he made a good film hit after the financial and critical success of “Cinderella,” another recent Disney film.

Dethroning Jurassic World

After a $511 million dollar weekend it would be impossible for any movie to dethrone “Jurassic World.” The new releases are just too light to be considered serious competitors for such a monster of a film. “Jurassic World” is the pure unadulterated definition of a blockbuster. The race is on, and fans are coming out to support what they like.

When Dewayne Johnson’s “San Andreas” made over $40 million for the weekend it was a big accomplishment. It was a signal that Johnson could hold his own as the lead star and bring in big returns on investments. The “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was a disappointment. The “Aloha” romantic comedy barely made any noise at the cash registers in movie theaters. Keith Mann said that the “Spy” comedy did well during the opening weekend, but none of these films are going to bounce back and dethrone “Jurassic World.”

Moviegoers are speculating that “Jurassic World” will be number one again because that is the only thing that makes sense. “Inside Out” has been promoted rather well, but it doesn’t have the power to dethrone “Jurassic World” either. There is even a Sundance Film called “Dope” that is being released on Friday. The budget wasn’t big so producers don’t expect gigantic profits either. It is, however, expected to make a decent profit. From the movie trailer it looks like it could become one of those urban classics like “House Party.”

Jennifer Lawrence to Star in Sci-fi Film

Two of Hollywood’s top stars will appear together in a sci-fi film, Passengers. The film is about a space flight to a distant planet. Passengers on the flight will be in cryogenic sleep. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt will star in the film. Lawrence will be paid a whopping 20 million dollars plus 30% of the movie’s profits. Pratt will see a jump in salary from 10 to 12 million.
The passenger project reportedly has been around for awhile. It was once going to star Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon. Later, Rachel McAdams was to replace Witherspoon. Now it is Lawrence and Pratt.
The major plot line for Passengers has Pratt’s character waking nine years early from his cryogenic sleep, and being unable to return to the sleep process. Not wanting to be there alone, he awakens the character played by Lawrence. The pair eventually become romantically involved reports Madison Street Capital.
