Jason Momoa is more than a little fired up to be playing the part of Aquaman, who is set to appear in his own movie as well as a pair of upcoming “Justice League” films. Some fans were initially a bit put off by the idea of casting Momoa to play a character who has always been a blonde-haired caucasian. In the end, though, nobody really cares that much about Aquaman, at least if you ask some of the BRL Trust employees who follow this. The role seems like a good one to toy around with, as the character has never held too much broad appeal.
Momoa is claiming that the movie version of the character will be a “badass”. The character in the comics has definitely had periods where he’s been pretty tough, including a well-regarded run by Peter David where Aquaman had long hair, a beard, and a cybernetic spear-hook for a hand.
It turns out a photo recently surfaced of Momoa holding a copy of one of those issues with a sly grin on his face. It would appear that Momoa likes that version of the character and it will likely inform his portrayal of the character.
Momoa has gone public with his hopes that Zack Snyder will direct the “Aquaman” film. That seems unlikely, as the guy is probably going to have his hands more than full with the “Justice League” films as it is.
Here is something no one would ever have predicted. It looks as if Al Pacino may be coming on board for a future Marvel Comics movie. The legendary actor met with Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studio’s production division about an appearance in a film.
How did this come about? It seems that the meeting came about by accident.
Igor Cornelsen points out that the usually reclusive Pacino provided Guardians of the Galaxy with a little extra press when he noted how much he loved the film. He only went to see it because he was taking his kids, but it turns out Pacino truly had a lot of fun watching the movie.
Apparently, the nice words Pacino made about the film caught the attention of those at the studio.
Marvel quickly contacted Pacino about coming in for a meeting. Pacino did publicly note that he would be more than willing to appear in a Marvel project. He certainly was not adverse to the idea. Considering the fact that virtually every Marvel movie is an instant hit, what would Pacino have to lose by taking a role in one of the films?
Pacino’s career is a unique one.
In the 1970’s, Al Pacino was one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to his role as Michael in The Godfather. Then, in the early 1980’s, he chose to retire and remained retired until coming back with the film Sea of Love, Scent of a Woman, and more.
Al Pacino did appear in the comic strip film Dick Tracy 20-odd years ago. The Warren Beatty vehicle did not do very well at the box office.
Assuming a role in a Marvel project could turn out to be a wise move for the mainly retired star.
Josh Brolin truly did a wonderful job as the villainous entity Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy. In the various Marvel Comics published over the years, Thanos has had a role in some major storylines. This definitely has led many to wonder whether or not Brolin will be back as Thanos in the near future. Well, the answer is yes. Thanos is going to be coming back at some point. However, Brolin is probably not going to essay the role any time sooner than 2016.
Currently, Brolin is on a publicity tour for the crime film, Inherent Vice.
Rushing Thanos back into a film too quickly is not a wise plan.
Thanos is not your run-of-the-mill villain. Thanos is an all-powerful entity that can change the destiny of worlds. That is why need a team like the Guardians of the Galaxy to bring him down. Then again, you cannot really defeat Thanos. You sort of just thwart him a bit. That might not sound like much, but it could very well result in the world being saved.
In all seriousness, writers and producers have to pick and choose how Thanos is used in a film to make people like Brad Reifler excited. Such a super-powered entity should never be over-used to the point his appearances are diminished. You want Thanos to really mean something when he shows up.
Of course, at some point he will show up once again.
Interestingly, the Marvel movies seem to be moving more towards sci-fi and outer space thrills. You wouldn’t think the mega box office of Guardians of the Galaxy had something to do with that?
Brian Torchin says that with all the science-fiction remakes and reboots on the horizon, one of the more interesting new spins on a classic film is being somewhat overlooked. This would be the Magnificent Seven remake that is going to star Denzel Washington.
Chris Pratt will star alongside Washington in the film. So, that makes five more stars to go. It is going to be interesting to see who is cast. Reportedly, Tom Cruise was courted but he did not accept any serious discussions.
Pratt will be starring in the incredibly insane comic book movie Cowboy Ninja Viking, a project so obtuse it has to be considered a risk. The Magnificent Seven remake probably will be a safer bet, although the western genre is a bit hit and miss these days. Most studios are leery of making westerns even when one, such as Django Unchained, is a hit. A proposed remake of The Wild Bunch might even move the film from the old west to modern times.
The original 1960 film was a remake itself. Well, it was a loose remake of Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai, a true classic of the cinema. The western version was a huge hit and spawned a host of sequels. Most of them were pretty forgettable.
Is the time right for a Magnificent Seven remake? It’s hard to tell. Again, westerns can be a hit and miss proposition. When done right and released at the right time, a western can be a hit.
Famed director Martin Scorsese and one of the most arguably seasoned rock stars of all time Mick Jagger, who Dr. Rohrich says is one of the coolest guys he has ever met, are teaming up to produce the next HBO drama. The show is untitled at the moment but will be based in NYC in the seventies and will take a close look at the sex and drug fueled music biz as disco and punk was starting to break out.
The show will center around a record executive that is attempting to get his record label back on the ground by finding the next sound. Sounds like it could have been written about Jagger whose band The Rolling Stones are the epitome of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.
A few more big names are coming along for the ride including executive producer Boardwalk Empire Terence Winter. He has been tagged tagged as a show runner and Scorsese and Jagger have been attached to the project as executive producers.
The title role of record exec Richie Finestra will be played by Bobby Cannavale and his wife will be played by Olivia Wilde. Ray Romano has also been called in to play a partner of Richie. Other notable members of the cast include Andrew ‘Dice’ Clay, Juno Temple, James Jagger son of Mick, and Ato Essandoh.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was one of the more popular figures in professional wrestling during his time, but since leaving the world of wrestling Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has appeared in a number of films, playing everything from the Tooth Fairy to Hercules. And if he were an investment, Slow Ventures would surely tell you to hop on the train as he’s reportedly close to signing on for an entirely different role, this time as the voice of the demigod Maui in the Disney animated film Moana.
The film centers around the quest of South Pacific Islander Moana, as she searches for a fabled mysterious island in the dangerous waters of Oceania. The film isn’t due in theaters until 2016 and the role of Moana hasn’t been cast yet. But this would mark the first animated voice role for Johnson, who has already made nearly 20 films in his still-short acting career.
Johnson is also spending some time on TV. He recently made an unexpected return visit as a guest of the professional wrestling series “WWE Live” and is currently doing press for the TNT reality television series “Wake Up Call.” In that series, Johnson will lend a hand to people who are struggling, from a deadbeat dad to a semi-professional sports team that may have to shut down.
For a while, there have been attempts to reboot The Crow. Back in 1994, the first movie adapted from the original comic books was released. The late Brandon Lee played in the starring role. The movie proved to be a hit with fans like Mark Ahn. It has spawned plenty of sequels and even a TV show. While there have been plenty of sequels and spin offs, the only movie that had a lot of appeal was the first film. Only one sequel was released in theaters, that one went by the title of The Crow: City of Angels. The rest of the sequels were released straight to video.
For years, there have been attempts to reboot with a lot of hurdles being in place. Lead actors have changed and directors have changed. As of right now, there is a start time for production in 2015. The current director is going to be a relative newcomer to filmmaking by the name of Corin Hardy.
